8 level terraced working with remains of. Well preserved double acting incline and buildings. Part of Padarn Country Park.****

A dramatic vertical gash cuts through the hillside, with a flooded pit accessed through an archway and working levels extending to the northwest. The drum houses of the lower inclines are elaborately built and ornamented, featuring massive cast brake mechanisms operated via spur gears and ship’s wheel controls, including remote crimp sprags.

The quarry’s five tandem incline pitches are particularly notable: the lower three are table inclines with much of the track and gear still intact, and the lowest pitch has been reconstructed for operation, powered rather than by gravity. The 4–6 incline is unusual, with a continuous run from 6 down to 4 and parallel tracks from 5 down to 4, both controlled from a double drum house on level 6. A traverser allowed alignment for traffic on the 4–5 tracks with the No. 4 drum house. At the foot of the main incline system is a short pitch at right angles, notable for its under-floor sheave gear and slate sleepers in situ.

Upper levels, connected by steep pathways, contain well-preserved rakes of dressing sheds and other buildings, some with excellent slab roofs. Adjacent to the pit is the engine house for the up-haulage, with a hanging sheave replicating the ‘Semi-Blondins’ used in the main Dinorwig area. On level 2, a rubbish run discharges towards the lake near the hospital

Hillside quarry operating on eight levels, two of which are now submerged. Though it shared all services with Dinorwig, it was classed as a separate unit.
