Site retains a fine group of late Victorian industrial buildings, several of which have been Listed for their historical importance. These include a generating house and other ancillary structures.

Site originally housed a chemical works between 1840 and 1900, some of whose buildings were later incorporated into the colliery. By 1891, the Princess Royal Colliery Company was actively working the site in conjunction with Park Gutter Colliery. The principal coal seam, the Coleford High Delf, was reached at a depth of 425 feet in the No. 3 shaft.
