Across Mansfield Road from the Gallows Hill Mines. Quarry driven southwards into the sandtone escarpment followed the sand down dip into a series of pillar and stall underground workings. More than half of these have now collpased when only 10% of the area was allocated for support pillars,
The three remaining underground areas are gated,
There was no underground working in the western quarry, the Catacomb Caves being a later feature dating to around c1860.
