As of a visit in June 1994, the mine appeared to be active below the level, with workings extending up to 60 feet beneath, depending on the water table. A second, emergency entrance exists on the opposite side of the road. The site remains maintained but showed little recent activity at that time.
Level initially follows the Yorkley Seam for 900 yards before cutting across the measures in a south-easterly direction to intersect the Coleford High Delf. Both seams have been worked upslope from the level. The Yorkley Seam, also worked from Howbeach Mine, is approximately 2 feet thick.
