Speedwell, also known as No. 7 Shaft, is located at SJ26905133 on the Main Vein, southwest of Lloyd’s Shaft. Originally part of the mining operations in the area, the shaft played a role in lead extraction and drainage. In 1920, the Wrexham and East Denbighshire Water Company reopened the shaft, repurposing it for water extraction. It remains on their property and continues to be used for pumping.
The 1850s mineral railway passes near Speedwell Shaft, indicating that it was once well-connected for ore transport. Additionally, the Speedwell Engine House, constructed in 1807, housed a 54-inch cylinder pumping engine.
