An old mine, erroneously labeled as South Providence but likely located elsewhere as South Providence is situated about 3/4 mile to the northeast according to the Ordnance Map, was once part of the Wheal Reath Consols sett. In 1908, Giew Mine was acquired by St Ives Consolidated Mines Ltd, which primarily operated Wheal Trenwith and other mines approximately two miles to the north. By 1917, the Thermo Electric Corporation, which had taken control of the group in 1915, abandoned all operations except Wheal Glew. Wheal Glew continued production throughout the post-World War I depression period (1914-1918) and was the sole active tin producer in the years 1921-1922. Giew Mine ceased operations in 1923.
