Along with North Wheal Robert and East Wheal Robert, is situated about two miles southeast of Whitchurch village near Tavistock. While the two Wheal Roberts operated jointly, Sortridge Consols functioned independently. The main focus of mining activity was on Main Lode, although there were several other numbered lodes within the area. Sortridge Consols worked Main Lode from Engine Shaft, Western Shaft, and Eastern Shaft. Operations began in 1854 and continued until 1871. Production records indicate that between 1854 and 1869, Sortridge Consols produced 7,792 tons of copper at an average grade of 8.0%, along with a negligible amount of tin and arsenopyrite.
