At least six large shaft mounds scattered across farmland south of Pen-y-gelli Farm and east of the woodland. Within the dense woodland north of Chwarel Pen-y-gelli Quarry, multiple shafts remain, including those at SJ 1348 7635, SJ 1349 7637, SJ 1355 7640, and SJ 1358 7651. As of July 1993, dense vegetation hindered a comprehensive survey of the woodland area.
According to the Mining Journal (18/4/1857), two 30“ pumping engines were listed for sale at Pen-y-gelli and Orsedd Mine.
The Pen-y-gelli Mining Company operated at the western end of the Milwr Vein for twenty years, focusing on the area within Pen-y-gelli Wood and north of the A5026. The 1st edition OS Flintshire Sheet V.11 shows shafts located south of the new A55.
