Description: Yellow-brown sandstone quarry with some pillar and stall underground working. Stone from the area was valued for contrasting stonework on significant local buildings. Some planes also made splitting easy for flagstone use. Most of the underground parts are open though one area was deliberately collapsed and gated. This older and deeper section has also had a lot of tipping in front of it by the owner of Rainford Delph (modern spelling of delf) Farm so will likley become completely covered at some point (possibly already). Regionally significant numbers of Daubenton’s and Brown Long-eared bats noted hibernating in the deep areas Despite being private land a public footpath runs through the site making it easily accessible and a well used area.
