The mine commenced operations in 1847, initially focusing on copper. Reports from that year indicated that the shaft was 30 fathoms deep, with levels being driven at 10 and 20 fathoms. Despite these efforts, the venture seemed to be unsuccessful.

In 1856, reports in the Mining Journal suggested that a new company was being formed to rework the mine. However, claims that the mine had previously sold £40,000 worth of copper ore from above the 50 fathom level appear to be unfounded and overly optimistic.
