Lower Adit of Lady Slad Freemine is still open, though only just. The entrance is marked by a substantial spoil heap built up with retaining stone walls, giving it a distinctive appearance. Access begins from the Cycle Centre at Cannop. From there, walk around the north end of the Council Buildings, past the lake and the small buildings on the right. Follow the forest road as it curves first right, then left. A narrow track on the left leads uphill toward a stone bridge. Cross the next forest road (the bridge will be on your right), and continue straight up the hill on a well-defined path beside a small stream.
You’ll know you’re on the right track when you start seeing remnants of old mining activity—such as broken clay cable covers labelled “Danger Electric Cables.” As the track hairpins to the left, leave it and continue straight ahead along a grassy flat path, then take the left fork. The Lower Adit sits at the end of this trail.
