Extensive area of limestone quarries used to produce roadstone and a small quantity for lime burning. Initially output was carried by road.
The Somerset Quarrying Company began working here in 1893/4.
Later served by an internal tramway to proceesing mills at Hapsford and onwards to the mainline rail network.
