Unusual occurence of a small Welsh mine specifically targetting zinc.

The mine, situated in the town of Llandeilo has since been built over.

Adit said to be 60m NE of the railway station, driven 60m as a crosscut, then 200m on the lode. Quarry Shaft sunk to adit level, then either it, or a winze down 10 fm deeper. Lode varied from 25cm to about 2m wide. There were two other lodes which weren’t explored.

Until recently, a shaft (Quarry Shaft?) was visible behind T. M. Williams & Sons, but has now been filled in, the site of the adit is lost.

Access to the workings alleged to be possible via the town drains!

Year Activity
1850s Mine at work.
1860-1873 Several companies had prospectuses to develop the mine in the Mining Journal none of which received speculator support.
1873 Sample assayed as 43.75% zinc
