The line of the Pant Du Vein is marked by a series of shafts descending through woodland towards pasture fields at SJ 1975 6010. Two shaft mounds are located west of the woods—one at SJ 1945 6030, south of the track to Pentre-Cerrig-Mawr, and another at SJ 1930 6050, which may have been the horse and pulley shaft referenced by Earp (1958).

According to Smith (1921), the vein surfaced at the east end of the mine, but any remaining evidence has since disappeared within Big Covert Woods.

Waenlas Mine worked the Waenlas Bach Vein at the western end of the Pant Du Vein, following the Llanferres Fault, which extends eastward from the River Alyn. Mining activity here was extensive, with a drainage level driven from the river, and records indicate that the mine was fully worked out to adit level by 1868. Documentary sources mention Shone’s Shaft and a whim.

In 1892, the Llanarmon District Mines Drainage Scheme (LDMD Co Ltd) was proposed and granted an Act of Parliament to unwater mines in the Llanferres district, but the scheme was never implemented.
