Extensive ganister workings which supplied Oughtibridge Silica Fire Brick Works. Small workings from c1880. The workings remained quite small until WWI when there was a large expansion. Expanded again during WWII but closed soon after.
Some of the Trans-Pennine Trail route through the woods here follows the gravity tramway from the two original small working faces.
