Trotter identifies the pithead as being located 75 yards south by west of the Shakemantle Land Shaft at an elevation of 390 feet OD. The pit was sunk prior to 1855, reaching a cross-cut at No. 3 Level at a depth of 250 feet and extending to No. 4 Level at 385 feet. No. 2 Level was driven from Findalls Level, serving as a free drainage level for Perseverance and possibly Shakemantle Mine. Although the entrance is blocked, its position is indicated by a strong spring (see Findalls Iron Mine for details). The cross-cut at No. 3 Level was driven for 4,750 feet, revealing several ore bodies descending to No. 4 Level. Subsequently, No. 4 Level was extended 4,800 feet southwards, with the last 1,200 feet proving to be barren. It is speculated that there may be a fifth level situated 100 feet below sea level, flooded up to No. 2 level, which drains through Findall Level.
