To the east of the main Cowgreen Mine, as its name suggests, worked a group of smaller but more numerous veins, including the East Cowgreen or Teesdale, Hopkins, Middle, Holmes, Rods, and Rods Cross or Angle veins. In the mid-19th century, lead concentrates were the primary product, before barytes became the main focus under the Hedworth Barium Co. and the Anglo-Austral Mining Co.
The mine complex comprises a combination of adits, shafts, and shallow opencuts. The grid reference provided is for the Hedworth Co.’s crosscut adit to the Hopkins Vein.
