To the West side of the twll is a short adit, backfilled, which ran under the Rhiwbach Tramway. To the West the remains of an untopped chamber. Stacked deads at the left of this chamber might be closing a break through to the adit as there seems little reason to have stacked them there.
Early quarry working on the Blaen-y-cwm Farm property. Initially worked around 1819 for a few years. Worked again later by Gatty, after the Rhiwbach Tramway had been built above it and cutting off it’s tips to the North. This phase of development also marked the arrival of the first mill on the site. Just North of the Rhiwbach Tramway, Gatty’s Mill was relatively short-lived. Some untopping took place quite late on in the life of this area quarry evidenced by the overburden at higher levels of tipping rather than burried at the bottom.
