Streamworks. Worked With: Alluvials. Shaft. ‘Sparable’ tin, described as acicular tin, is documented from various Cornish mines, including the Gavrigan Tin Stream Works, as noted by R. H. Solly in The Mineralogical Magazine. Solly explains that ‘Sparable Tin’ is unique to Cornwall and is named for its resemblance to the sparable nail of a cobbler. During tin streaming activities, four tin lodes were identified adjacent to the River Fal and were exploited by the Gavrigan Mine (SW935592). Sir Arthur Russell, a renowned collector, obtained specimens of wood tin from this vicinity (Hamilton Jenkin 1964).
