An area of mineralized overthrust, considered to be a continuation of the Dent Fault System, is characterized by mineralization filling numerous small cracks in dolomitized limestone adjacent to the fault, likely the Melmerby Scar. The orebody, though modest in quality, has been exploited through open-cast mining, with some small trial shafts also being sunk in the area. Shown as Iron Foundry on 1st edn OS. Surveyed for Cumbria council by Ed Dennison Archaelogical Services in 1997
