Located on the southwest slope of Herdship Fell, this barytes mine exploited the Dubbysike = Force Burn Vein. Older workings included an opencut in the Tynebottom Limestone, a level underneath it, and a crosscut adit called Hunter’s Level. At lower horizons, Muse’s Level was driven into the sandstone atop the Whin Sill, and a shaft was sunk on Bother Mere into the sill itself.
Later operations saw the establishment of a new crosscut adit by the Hedworth Barium Co. during World War I and a new shaft by the Wrentnall Baryte Co. during World War II. The mine remained under lease as late as 1984 under Sanbar Ltd.
