I put a little teaser up for this a few days ago, but I think we're now ok for a more explicit Forum announcement.
The Mine Database is now live in the form of Mine Search and Armchair Explorer. Currently, you need to be a logged in forum user to access these pages, but that may change. Separate links for each are displayed at the top of the forum.

Both pages provide similar functionality in that they interogate the Mine Site Database and display mine info, but they approach the problem from different angles.
Mine Search
This is a traditional search page where you search for specific sites using various criteria. When search criteria have been set, you perform a search on the database, and matching mine sites are displayed as a table or as a set of pointers on a map. Mine Search is a good option if you are looking to find a specific mine or set of mines.

Armchair Explorer
This is intended more as an ad hoc tool for exploring British mines (possibly whilst relaxing on an armchair). By default, all of the UK mines are displayed with clusters being used keep the display manageable. You can then zoom and pan to explore individual sites. Site markers are colour coded to indicate product. Various mapping layers are available via a dropdown, including:

Mine Details
Clicking a mine marker or row will open a separate Details page for the mine showing the full mine record. There are green request buttons in various locations to request the addition of a new mine, or to amend details of an existing mine. The requests are sent to an Area Moderator (details of whom we will publish shortly) to either add or edit mine records. We really hope that users make use of this in order to improve and enrich mine entries.
Mobile Use
We've deisgned this iteration primarilly for desktop use. It is reasonably usable in landscape mode on a phone. We will try and improve small device friendliness over time.
These are still early days, so please report any issues or improvement suggestions to https://buddlepit.co.uk/community/index.php?threads/mine-database-issues.517/

- A Pop Across filter is available to filter displayed mine markers in a similar way to Mine Search.
- Goto Box. Can be used to go to a Grid Ref or Lat Lon location
- Popup. Clicking an area on the map with no marker will bring up a popup showing location and geological information.
