Coal Mining By Hand!

There'll be videos on Youtube of the FoD miners working, I'm sure. On a slight tangent, this American short film shot in the 1970s is well worth a watch.

Thank You to all of you for making amazing suggestions,

Self admittedly I've never been in a coal mine, and I find it so fascinating, I read a document that had a poem attached to it, I think it was called (Dark Arteries, Old Veins)

Oh hang on I just found it with a quick search here it is: https://glamarchives.wordpress.com/2017/01/18/glamorgans-blood-dark-arteries-old-veins/

I also read a book about the miners of south Wales and they used to call this part of the coal vein "The Dark Artery" I have been trying to find out more information on that specific vein because it was said to be the purest darkest coal, and allegedly I don't know if there is any truth to this, but it is said this same vein disappears under the ocean and reappears in some other countries and coal miners could identify this coal from this seam by its look and touch.

Some of you will 100% know much more than I do on this subject if you could be so kind as to share information about this.

I will definitely visit the Forest Of Dean Mine this year, I will be sure to visit Apedale, to make sure I have a cheese and bacon oatcake in the cafe while I'm there!

Thank You
SDC
