Help wanted.

I have had to put down my popcorn briefly due to concerns that this stuff could cause wider speculation leading to someones private garden being invaded which could then compromise future access. Browngill Low level, as I say, is on private land. Interesting explore but does not lead, possibly answers questions about Whitesike sumps.

While I am on, I can answer another possible question that some amy have had for years. If you drive down the hill from the Middleton road towards Garigill you come to a T junction, left towards the village takes you past a massive spoil heap on the left. Well the above mentioned level is where this came from.

Ahh, Thankyou for that Roy, often wondered about that in passing but looked like private land so never investigated, was on the ‘curiosity’ list.

There is another level in that vicinity also on private land, does not go far.
Also, Heb and I, a few years ago checked out all the levels up to the road, nothing doing. Low Hundy is worth am explore though.
I should also mention that "the four lines" not of poetry but from a Methodist Hymn, its in my paper.

So. Are you goint to take up Leif's offer and prove him wrong?
I am temprted to put money on the table

That chalk graffiti is hands down my favourite Nenthead artefact.
There was talk about reopening the way in from Hodgesons Portal, but it’d cause issue for that chalk, in my view.
It’d be some trip to get there from Garrigill though - a long way!

I tend to agree, plus it would then be open to all. Its nice to keep something accessible only to the truly dedicated. I cannot really describe my feelings when I discovered it, and then to see the same signature on the abandoment plan! I have have had a good and interesting life, but not over yet by along way. I first visited Nenthead back in 1986, all the old faces were around then. In the same year I wrote something for a newsletter that was total tripe, I was getting laughed at, but 2 people encouraged me to carry on and do my research. The late Harry Parker and Damian McCurdy. I have fond memories.
We desperately need new younger people, people who will contribute something not just wonder around underground, and at the worst, mess things up with paint and litter. Most of us are getting older. Its same in a lot of other activities.

One detailed plan in the NMCS archive - copy of the CATMHS archive plan. Talk to me about the sup from Colonel's Level - I may be able to help.

Another unique bit of graffiti was a piece that simply says “Mind Thy Nose”, chiselled into shale next to a sump in one of the other Nent mines.
Well worth seeing, for those who care to look for it.

Cheers Pete, I’ll ping you a Facebook message - I’ll outline what I’m after it for, too.

Yes, I do like Low Hundy, interestingly different geology for the area.

After his attitude, I’d rather not, if I told him, he’d stop looking, and anyway, if LA hasn’t seen it, it therefore doesn’t exist, and how can I show him that which does not exist? 😉

I’m more than happy to be proven wrong, and if that were to happen, I’d be more than happy to apologise.
As it stands though, I don’t believe you.
As that’s the case, I’m not “looking for” anything in Caplecleugh - we have more important projects at Nent.

Knowing both Heb and Roy, if there had been an open link to “the next valley”, then they would almost certainly have found it.
Undoubtedly you’ll have read Roy’s journal on their exploration, so you’ll know how thorough they were throughout.

I’ll respectfully ask that you don’t use my initials on the thread, too - we aren’t friends, so it isn’t appropriate.

Unless we are having a public announcement on the “mythical” level , I think it’s best if we wrap it up now .

It’s ruining the threads & the cretin has asked politely to be shown , this has been denied which of course is acceptable .

Let’s leave it there now (y) this wasn’t a thread set for idle chat
